The Story Behind the Garden on a Roll Template

Every Garden on a Roll border starts with one thing: the expertly designed planting template.

It’s what makes the whole system work, showing you exactly where each plant goes and taking away all the guesswork.

But it didn’t always start that way.

How It All Began

Back in 2008, when the idea for Garden on a Roll first came about, every template was created by hand.

Each layout was carefully drawn out, mapping where every plant should go. At the time, it was a simple process and actually quite relaxing.

There weren’t many orders in those early days, so doing everything by hand worked perfectly.

For the first few years, every single border was designed this way.

From Hand-Drawn to Scaled Production

As more people discovered Garden on a Roll, things quickly grew.

What started as a small, hands-on process soon became too busy to manage manually.

That’s when the next step came in, developing a more efficient way to produce the templates using our own printing system.

This allowed us to keep the same carefully planned designs, but produce them consistently and at scale.

Designed to Fit Your Garden

Today, the templates are available in a range of widths and lengths to suit different garden spaces.

Each roll is packed with information, guiding you through exactly where to place every plant.

All of this is printed onto biodegradable paper, designed to be both practical and environmentally considerate.

The Idea That Made Planting Simple

What started as hand-drawn plans has become a simple system that helps gardeners create beautiful borders with ease.

It’s amazing to think that so much thought, design, and detail can be delivered on a single roll, ready to transform your garden.
